Snowboarding is a relatively new sport, that took its first steps during the 70's and has since earned many followers, especially throughout Europe and America. It is qualified as an extreme sport, sharing the same space as skiing, and consists of travelling sliding (or snaking) across snow with both feet strapped to a board. Snowboarding has been an olympic sport since 1998, the year it was recognised as such. The basic equipment needed is a snowboard, boots and fixing equipment. Nowadays snowboarding enjoys a huge following, who grace the slopes acorss the world, most notably in Europe, with many found on the Alps and the Pyrenees.
The most notable ski resorts for snowboarding are Crans Montana, Saas (Switzerland), Sestriere, Breuil Cervinia (Italy), Sierra Nevada, Baqueira Beret, Candanchú, Jaca, Astún, Formigal (Spain), Andorra, Chamonix, Courchevel, Meribel (France), Austria, Turkey, Portugal and Russia. In all these place there are plenty of holiday accommodations ready to welcome you to the slopes!
